Why KHDC?

Prevention, Early detection and Management of Chronic Kidney Disease, Hypertension, Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease in Community of Nepal (KHDC-Nepal)

Worldwide 55 million people die annually among which 2/3rd of them die due to Non Communicable diseases and their complications. Non Communicable chronic diseases are Hypertension, Chronic Kidney Disease, Diabetes mellitus, Dyslipidemia, Cardiovascular diseases, Thyroid disorders, COPD, Malignancy etc and Complications (Cerebrovascular accident, End Stage Renal Failure, Myocardial infarction, Retinopathies). The major cause of death among Low and middle Income countries (LMICs) including Nepal are NCDs and their complications only tabulating around 80% of all deaths. NCDs commonly develop due to modifiable risk factors that can be mitigated mostly by our lifestyle changes. Obesity, sedentary life styles are on top of others. The risk of having NCDs also increases with increasing age groups and heredity. It is wise to prevent the complications before the symptoms develops, it is even wiser to prevent before the disease develops. Thus, the primary vision of this campaign is to diagnose the hidden streaks of fire among the healthy people in and around us; to diagnose and prevent NCDs before anybody land up into the end stage of their life and finance. It is important to diagnose them early by regularly monitoring the parameters  at the initial stage, as the patient remains healthy even if the disease has already been progressed inside his body. When we recognize the disease, Patient land up to complications only when the person and the family realizes the abnormality present where the disease burden has already been progressed to irreversible state. The cost and the prognosis at this stage with complications heart failure, blindness, End stage renal disease, Stroke) is unbearable.

This primary motto of this campaign is to spread the knowledge of Healthy Kidneys, Healthy Heart and ultimately Healthy Life. Prof Sharma himself quotes; simple ABCDE testing keeps the two brothers (Heart and Kidneys) safe.

It is our goal to reach many minds as much as possible and prevent and eliminate these deep rooted NCDs from causing life threating situations.

Founder & Patron

With the mission to reach out directly to community members suffering from chronic health conditions through health awareness, active screening and early detection, KHDC Nepal has been paving the way of addressing the growing burden of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs) suffered by persons with kidney, hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions since 2003 as its establishment year. By identifying individuals at risk and providing essential counseling and treatment, we empower them to take control of their health and prevent the progression of these serious conditions.
Our program has effectively demonstrated that community-based screening is essential for early identification of individuals at risk of chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs). By detecting these diseases early, we can implement proven interventions and manage conditions proactively, improving health outcomes for individuals and the community in general.
We realized that the path to better health lies not only in treatment but also in education and awareness, so our outreach programs are designed to connect individuals with the healthcare resources they need along with health education and counseling. Our initiatives are informed by expert medical guidance and tailored to the specific needs of those we serve. KHDC Nepal is determined to continue its work in promoting health education, raising awareness about chronic diseases, and improving access to healthcare services. Our strategic priorities will focus on further developing our outreach programs, strengthening collaborations with local authorities, and addressing emerging health challenges within the communities we serve. As we look to the future, our objective is to make the intervention sustainable and long-term by intigrating KHDC program with existing health resources and infrastructure.
We would like to express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to our worthy team of health professionals, volunteers, Stakeholders, and supporters who have made our mission a reality. Their passion, expertise, and compassion have been highly instrumental in delivering quality healthcare services to our communities.
